Three taken to hospital after car flips in crash on village main road

Three people have been taken to hospital after a car flipped on a main road through a village.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the serious crash on Leigh Road, Boothstown, shortly after 2.30pm.

Witnesses tried to help those injured in the collision, with a passing healthcare professional stopping to help.

Photos from the scene showed the car had overturned following the collision.

North West Ambulance Service have confirmed that three patients have been taken to hospital by paramedics.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: "We have taken three patients to hospital, including two female patients who have suffered head injuries and one male with minor injuries."

Traffic is building in the area, and drivers have been urged to find an alternative route where possible.

Drivers are using Mosley Common Road, East Lancashire Road, Ellenbrook Road, and Walkden Road to avoid the closure, so traffic on these routes may be slightly heavier than usual.

Bus services have also been affected by the closure, with Diamond North West confirming several routes were disrupted.

The 132 from Wigan Bus Station to the Trafford Centre has been disrupted by the crash, and will divert through Ellenbrook Road, the East Lancashire Road, and Chaddock Lane along with the 126 between Leigh and the Trafford Centre.

Neither service will stop at Boothstown Post Office.

Emergency services are working on scene to clear the incident as quickly as possible.

GMP has been contacted for comment.
