Three takeaways from the Bears’ season-ending win against the Vikings’ second string:

A run game?

Rookie David Montgomery finished the season with the second-best game of his career. He ran 23 times for 113 yards, his most since gaining 135 on 27 rushes against the Chargers. The Bears’ 158 rushing yards were four shy of their season-high, also against the Chargers.

Long shot

Having restricted his contract to stay with the team in February, guard Kyle Long Tweeted three words: “Bear for life.”

His Tweets Sunday made it sound like his he doesn’t plan to play for them again. Long who was put on Injured Reserve after Week 5 with what the team called a hip injury, Tweeted on Sunday that “ I played every snap of my final game before being put on IR. I’m no genius... but I can take a hint.” He acknowledged that “my play was awful, as a result of playing hurt. No secret there.”

Two out

The Bears lost Pro Bowl returner Cordarrelle Patterson in the first quarter when he was concussed. Receiver Anthony Miller took his place at kick returner but was lost for the game when he hurt his shoulder on a second-quarter return.
