Three takeaways from the Bears’ loss to the Titans:
Third-and-yuck
For the eighth time in nine games, the Bears failed to score in the third quarter. When their two drives ended in a punt and a David Montgomery fumble, the Bears fell to the following season-long total in the third period: in 21 drives, they’ve punted 12 times, thrown six interceptions, fumbled once, had one turnover on downs and one touchdown. No one in the NFL has scored fewer third-quarter points.
Can’t get a yard?
The Bears’ short yardage woes continued. Faced with fourth-and-1 at the Titans’ 34 at the end of their first drive, Matt Nagy put both Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson in the backfield. Quarterback Nick Foles faked a pitch left to Patterson and handed underneath on a dive play to Montgomery, who was stuffed. Germain Ifedi missed a block that led to the turnover on downs.
“It’s a dive, ya know?” Nagy said. “It’s what we do in youth football.”
Santos kicks
Bears kicker Cairo Santos made his lone field goal try Sunday in the same stadium where he missed four — leading to his release — as a member of the Titans last year. The kick was a chip-shot 22-yarder and his 12th-straight successful kick.
