Three takeaways from the Bears’ 20-13 win against the Lions

Three takeaways from the Bears’ 20-13 win against the Lions on Sunday:

• Nick of time. Presenting your Bears’ 2019 sack leader: defensive tackle Nick Williams, who was out of football in 2017. His sack Sunday brought his season total to a team-high six.

“It’s hard work, sticking with it and believing in myself,” he said. “Playing for an organization like the Bears, you just want to do a great job. Two years ago, I was on the street.”

• Adam ain’t. For the first time in his NFL career, tight end Adam Shaheen — a 2017 second-round pick whom the Bears took two spots ahead of Joe Mixon, 17 spots ahead of JuJu Smith-Schuster and 22 spots ahead of Alvin Kamara — was a healthy scratch. Coach Matt Nagy said the verdict to sit the scuffling Shaheen was a “team decision.”

• PAT no good. Kicker Eddy Pineiro had made 15-straight extra points to start his NFL career before missing one after the Bears’ second touchdown. He lined up on the right hash mark and kicked the ball wide right. Pineiro made his final try, also from the right hash.
