Three takeaways
The Bears provided plenty of drama and entertainment in their 24-20 victory against the Lions. It came down to a late touchdown by Mitch Trubisky and an even later interception by Eddie Jackson with Detroit threatening to steal the win. Here are three quick notes not to be overlooked:
Nothing missed
After missing four field goals and two extra points in his previous six games, Eddy Pineiro went 4-for-4 with a 30-yard field goal and three extra points. The downside: On turf and indoors, coach Matt Nagy turned down a 50-yard try for him in the second quarter.
Rockin’ Roquan
Bears linebacker Roquan Smith has been trending upwardly lately and came up with arguably the best game of his young career. He set a personal best with 15 tackles and had his first two-sack game. As for his unnecessary-roughness penalty at the end, he said, “I didn’t agree with it, but the referee called it. It’s a flag, and I just have to go to the next play.”
Fuller’s stop
The Bears wouldn’t have pulled this off without Kyle Fuller’s shoestring tackle on third-and-about-a-foot in the fourth quarter. Lions running back J.D. McKissic tried to break outside, but Fuller dove and caught his feet for the stop. “That was huge, probably the biggest play of the game as far as the situation goes,” Nagy said. “That is an absolute game changer.”
