Three takeaways from the Bears’ brutal 34-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday:
Santos misses
Cairo Santos missed his first kick of any sort since Week 3. After the Bears scored their first touchdown, his extra-point attempt was blocked by Lions defensive lineman Romeo Okwara, who would later force Mitch Trubisky to fumble. Santos, who made three extra points and a 45-yard field goal Sunday, hadn’t missed an extra point all year. He has made 16 -consecutive field goals, the best Bears streak in five years.
Cordarrelle runs
Cordarrelle Patterson had the best game of any Bears player. He started with a 45-yard kickoff return and then posted his best rushing day. His 10 carries for 59 yards topped his performance in Week 2 of 2019 against the Broncos. He almost doubled his season total; entering Sunday, he had 33 carries for 67 yards. -Patterson had a 13-yard rushing touchdown, his first since 2018, and a four-yard catch for a first down.
Kmet scores
It’s clear that Cole Kmet is the Bears’ top tight end. He had five catches and seven targets Sunday, after having eight and 14 all year. Kmet, who played baseball at Notre Dame, celebrated his 11-yard fourth-quarter touchdown by holding the football and swinging at a phantom pitch by Jimmy Graham.
