Three takeaways from Bears past and present in Sunday’s 22-14 loss to the Eagles:
• Drop it. Former Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery had three drops Sunday, but caught the first of the Eagles’ four third-down conversions on a smothering final drive.
“We’re going to all make mistakes, and I have nothing but confidence in him,” quarterback Carson Wentz said of Jeffery, who had four catches on eight targets for 36 yards. “When he does that, then I’m going to come right back to him, much like we did on that third down.”
• We said, drop it. Rookie running back David Montgomery scored two touchdowns, ran 14 times for 40 yards and caught three passes for 36. It’s the one incompletion, though, that will haunt him — on second-and-9 from the Bears’ 48, he dropped a well-blocked screen pass. The Bears punted two plays later and never ran another offensive play.
• Quiet day for Trey. Tight end Trey Burton, famed for his “Philly Special” touchdown pass, was blanked against his former team. He had one ball thrown his way, and it was incomplete.
