Club Dub? More like Club Drubbed.
The Bears’ locker room was quiet as a library after the Saints pounded them 36-25 at Soldier Field. They’re in a scary spot at 3-3 and looking up at the Packers and Vikings in the NFC North.
It’s been a sharp fall from talking Super Bowl in training camp. Here are three quick takeaways from the loss to the Saints:
Saints’ backups feast. It didn’t matter that the Saints were missing Drew Brees and Alvin Kamara. Their replacements, Teddy Bridgewater and Latavius Murray, roasted the Bears. Bridgewater remained undefeated as Brees’ fill-in by throwing for two touchdowns with no turnovers and turning in a 100.9 passer rating. Murray ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.
Robinson stays dependable. Imagine where the Bears’ offense would be without Allen Robinson. He continues to be their best player on that side of the ball and came through with 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown Sunday. Mitch Trubisky targeted him on 16 of his 54 pass attempts. Robinson leads the Bears in yards from scrimmage at 464 on 41 catches.
Burton still struggling. Bears tight end Trey Burton doesn’t feel right, and he certainly doesn’t look back to normal. He had two catches for 11 yards. After playing a major role in the offense last season, he has 13 receptions in five games. There’s not much he can do about it if he’s not healthy, but the Bears don’t have anyone capable of replacing his production.
