Three takeaways from Bears’ 16-6 win over Vikings

Robinson showed Sunday he can produce regardless of the circumstances. | Ashlee Rezin Garcia/Sun-Times

A bleak afternoon at Soldier Field could’ve turned truly dismal for the Bears when Mitch Trubisky went down in the first quarter, but their supreme defense held it down for a 16-6 win over the Vikings on Sunday.

While most of the focus from here will be on Trubisky and backup Chase Daniel, the drama went well beyond quarterback. Here are three quick takeaways from the game:

Robinson delivers. A legitimate No. 1 receiver will produce regularly regardless of who is playing quarterback or how strong the opposing defense is, and Allen Robinson proved it anew with seven catches on seven targets for 77 yards against the Vikings—much-needed with Trubisky and Taylor Gabriel out. Robinson probably won’t ever get eye-popping numbers on this team, but he’s highly dependable.

Wims steps up. Javon Wims battled among a talented group of wide receivers in training camp to earn a roster spot, and the Bears’ decision to keep him paid off Sunday. He put up 56 yards on four receptions against the Vikings after totaling 40 yards receiving for his career before that.

Resurgent offensive line. The Bears’ offensive line has been up and down, and the unit had to play without injured right guard Kyle Long on Sunday. Then they lost backup Ted Larsen to a knee injury and turned to reserve swing tackle Rashaad Coward at that spot. Nonetheless, the Bears were sturdy up front and allowed just one sack.
