Three students injured in high school shooting in Ohio

At least three students have been injured in a high school shooting at Madison High School in Southwestern Ohio.

Two students were struck by gunshots and at least one other was injured either by shrapnel or by trying to get out of the line of fire, said Butler County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Anthony Dwyer.

The shooting took place in the school cafeteria about 11.30am, as reported by Cincinnati.com

A suspect is in custody, the school district confirmed.

After the shooting, all the schools in the district went into lockdown for about an hour and a helicopter arrived to airlift the injured to hospital.

Bob Hollister, whose grandson attends the school, said he had been sitting in his daughter's van for about 45 minutes when the lockdown was lifted. He described the scene at the school following the shooting as “chaotic".

Roads to the school were reportedly blocked up as relatives and parents drove in to collect their children.

The incident happened the same day that four schools in Prince George County, Maryland, were briefly placed into lockdown after one person was shot and critically injured nearby. The police are searching for up to two suspects, according to NBC.
