Three-storey home on market for just £60k - but with one hidden catch

A three-storey home which has just gone on the marketed with a guide price of £60,000 may tempt some house-buyers, but it does have a catch.

While the house is on three levels, it only has one bedroom which is less than six square metres - with room for a bed and little else.

At £60,000, the property has a guide price that is considerably lower than a standard terraced house in the area, and goes up for auction on March 22, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The average price of a terraced home in Littleborough, Rochdale town near the south Pennines, is £166,922 according to Zoopla - more than £100,000 more than the guide price.

However then low price means the buyer needs to be prepared to settle for a small living area. The property is made up of just a one-up, one-down layout - and doesn't even have a proper bedroom.

The mid-terraced home is noticeably narrower than the home next to it when viewed from the outside.

However, the ground floor of the home is 15 square metres and consists of a kitchen area, fitted with a range of wall and base units with space for a small dining table, a bathroom with a walk in shower, and doors from the kitchen leading out into a small communal outdoor area.

Upstairs there is a small landing which leads into the first floor room, a 12 square metre lounge with a window to the front, with stairs to access a mezzanine level floor above it, which is where the bedroom is.

The bedroom is less than 6 square metres and fits just a bed, a bedside table and overhead drawers in the website pictures.

The Zoopla listing reads: "Situated in the heart of Littleborough within walking distance of local shops and the train station providing direct access to both Manchester and Leeds city centres offers this mezzanine one bedroom mid terrace property.

"Fitted with a combi boiler and double glazed windows. This property is offered with no onward chain. Accessed from Regent Street around the back of the shops."

The property is up for sale via auction with bidding closing on March 22 at 3pm.

The listing adds: "The Guide Price amount specified is an indication of each seller's minimum expectation. It is not necessarily the amount at which the property will sell. Each property will be offered subject to a Reserve (a figure below which the property will not be sold) which we expect will be set no more than 10% above the Guide Price amount.

"An ideal investment, this property comprises of an open plan dining kitchen and shower room to the ground floor. The first floor offers a lounge and mezzanine level bedroom above.

The property appears smaller than neighbouring houses from the outside. (Zoopla/Hunters)
