Three stolen cars found after 'suspicious' driver fled police and crashed in Newcastle

Three stolen cars have been found after a driver acting in a "suspicious manner" fled police and crashed in Newcastle.

At about 4am on Wednesday, officers were on patrol in Byker when they noticed the driver of a white Range Rover acting suspiciously.

They signalled for him to stop but the driver refused and drove away from the area.

Officers lost sight of the Range Rover but it was found crashed and abandoned on Brough Street alongside two other vehicles.

It was later discovered that all three had been stolen during a burglary on Commerical Road and an investigation has been launched to find those responsible.

Inspector Steve Armstrong, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “These vehicles have successfully been located because of the vigilance of officers on patrol.

“They recognised the driver of the Range Rover was acting in a suspicious manner and within an hour they had seized three stolen vehicles.

“If they had not used their investigative instinct then we may never have located those vehicles so it was an excellent piece of police work.

“Enquiries to locate those responsible are ongoing but that net is closing because of the excellent response of our operational units.

“We hope this swift response provides reassurance that we will do all we can to safeguard your property and put suspects before the courts.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 113 07/10/20.
