Three staff members test positive for coronavirus at Whitley Bay Holiday Park in North Tyneside

Three members of staff at a holiday park have tested positive for Covid-19 - but bosses have reassured holidaymakers that the site remains safe.

The cases have been confirmed at Whitley Bay Holiday Park, in North Tyneside, and the staff members affected are now isolating.

Some other team members who came into contact with the affected staff are also in isolation.

However, it is understood the employees did not come into close contact with any holidaymakers.

Bosses say the site, which is logged with NHS Track and Trace, is following stringent safety rules and all areas where the affected staff were working have been deep cleaned.

They say the park, which is based near St Mary's Island and offers caravan and lodge holidays, is Covid safe.

A spokesperson for Whitley Bay Holiday Park said: "Three members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

"They are all self-isolating, as are a handful of other team members who have been in close contact with them recently. We wish them a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming them back to work when allowed.

“We can reassure everybody that the park remains Covid-safe. We have carried out full deep cleans of all areas that the affected staff were working in, and have stringent, sector-leading Covid safety protocols, so we're confident that none of the team members came into close contact with any holidaymakers."

A number of busineses and schools across the region have been affected by coronavirus.

While some have had to close temporarily, others have been able to remain open after following Government guidelines and safety rules.
