Three sought over Myanmar family murder

Police are hunting three suspects believed to be involved in the killing of four members of a Myanmar family in Tak's Mae Sot district early on Sunday morning.

Ador and his wife, Makhin La, both 45, and their two sons, aged four and four months, were found dead around 8.30am at a house on farmland in tambon Tha Sai Luat. The parents worked as labourers. They were bludgeoned to death.

Police officers scoured the house for evidence and interviewed witnesses. However, the investigators have not disclosed the identities of the suspects.

Deputy national police chief Chalermkiat Sriworakhan on Monday flew to Mae Sot district to survey the scene and examine the local police's investigation into the gruesome killings.

Pol Gen Chalermkiat said investigators were told to collect DNA samples, fingerprints and any bloodstained items.

The Immigration Bureau is also seeking cooperation from Myanmar to help prevent the suspects from slipping across the border. Pol Gen Chalermkiat said Myanmar has responded positively.

According to a source with the Mae Sot police, one of the suspects was identified only as Suay. The two other accomplices were his friends, and all are believed to have known the victims.

After the murder, the trio escaped and hid on an islet under the Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge.

A daughter of Makhin La, whose name was not given, said the killers were the family's neighbours, said the source.

The daughter, who is not living at home with the family, said her mother was upset with the neighbours for saying her sister had been dating a man secretly. Makhin La went to the neighbours and they argued.

The daughter said her mother also called her to come home. When she arrived, she found four of her family had been killed.
