Three simple rules Netflix users should not break

Netflix may be part of everyday life for millions of users but people risk being banned if they break three simple rules. Users may be breaking them without even realising it in some cases.

If they're not followed customers could see their accounts locked or even banned. And after the tech giant revealed it lost a staggering 200,000 subscribers in April this year, there is a clampdown on repeat offenders which abuse their accounts reports the Mirror.

Passwords

One of the biggest problems for Netflix is password sharing. It has always been banned - but millions of users have bypassed the rules.

The company were fairly relaxed with the issue but that's now since changed. After seeing a huge subscriber drop for the first time in over 10 years, Netflix is taking the issue far more seriously and clamping down on users who don't have their own accounts.

VPN use

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and it allows users to trick websites into thinking they're in a different country. This means when you're using a VPN and accessing Netflix, users can watch television shows and movies that have been released in other countries before theirs.

Netflix's position on VPNs says: "You may access the Netflix content primarily within the country in which you have established your account and only in geographic locations where we offer our service and have licensed such content." Rather than a complete ban users are likely to be issued a warning to stop using a VPN.

Creating your own copies

Netflix's terms state users must "not to archive, reproduce, distribute, modify, display, perform, publish, license, create derivative works from, offer for sale" anything on the platform. Netflix says: "We may terminate or restrict your use of our service if you violate these Terms of Use or are engaged in illegal or fraudulent use of the service."
