Three shot during baby shower after family argument over gifts breaks out

Three people including a 16-year-old were shot when a family argument over gifts broke out at a baby shower, police have said.

A 23-year-old male, a 19-year-old female, and a 16-year-old male sustained gunshot wounds after a man took out a shot gun during the event in Pennsylvania, US, and started firing rounds.

Police said they were called to the scene of the shooting at about 6:00pm on Saturday. A man has been taken into custody after the shocking incident.

The Tribune-Live identified the gunman as Isiah J. Hampton, 25, reportedly the father of the baby for whom the celebrations had taken place. Police, however, have not confirmed his identity.

The gunman was reportedly the dad of the expected child (KDKA-TV)

He reportedly fired the rounds during an argument over whether he would transport gifts.

The Lower Burrell Police department said in a statement on Facebook that it was “not an active shooter situation but rather an isolated family incident during a baby shower".

"Preliminary investigation shows the family argument began and turned physical, and then a suspect introduced a nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun, firing off rounds," the statement added.

All victims were taken to hospital but the extent of their injuries aren't known yet.
