Three rushed to hospital after horror smash between tractor, lorry and car on Scots road

Three men have been rushed to hospital and a vehicle was left ablaze following a horror crash in the Borders.

An HGV flipped on to its side after colliding with a tractor, trailer and a car on the A1, near the village of Cockburnspath, at around 10.30am on Monday, November 16.

Pictures posted on Traffic Scotland's Twitter account show police officers and firefighters on the scene, with the HGV flipped and the tractor off the road.

The casualties were treated at the scene by paramedics as firefighters tried to put out the blaze.

The road was closed in both directions as a result of the drama, and has now been closed for four hours as the area is made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 10.33am on Monday, November 16, to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1, Scottish Borders.

"Operations Control mobilised five appliances to the scene near the village of Cockburnspath, where firefighters were met by a collision involving four vehicles, one of which was well alight.

"Firefighters currently remain on the scene working to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.

"Two casualties are currently being assessed by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 10.30am on Monday, November 16, 2020, officers were called to a report of a three vehicle crash involved a tractor and trailer, an HGV and a car on the A1 neat Cockburnspath.
