Three Roma fans jailed for attack on Liverpool supporter Sean Cox walk free from prison

Three Roma fans jailed for an attack on Irish Liverpool supporter Sean Cox which left him with life-changing injuries have all walked free from prison.

Simone Mastrelli - one of the three Italian men imprisoned in the UK for the “sudden and unprovoked” attack on the Meath dad of three - was only one third of the way through his three-and-a-half year sentence, reports Dublin Live.

Sean, 53, from Dunboyne in Co Meath, was set upon near Anfield stadium before Liverpool’s Champions League tie against Roma on April 24, 2018.

He had travelled over to Merseyside to watch the crunch European game against the Italian side with his brother.

In February 2019, Mastrelli, 31, was caged after pleading guilty to unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm to Sean, who was left in a coma for six weeks at Walton Neurological Centre in Liverpool before being transported back to Dublin's National Rehabilitation Hospital.

Two other Roma fans, Daniel Sciusco, 30, was jailed for two-and-a-half years for violent disorder in August 2018, and 22-year-old Filippo Lombardi was caged for three years for violent disorder in October 2018.

However, the Herald reports that the British Ministry of Justice have revealed that all three men have been released. They add that the ministry would not give the exact dates that they were set free.
