Three registered coronavirus deaths last week as figures decrease

There have been three coronavirus-connected deaths in Scotland over the last week - a decrease of two from the previous week.

National Records of Scotland released its figures today.

One of these deaths took place in a care home and two in a hospital.

A total of 4,216 people have died of confirmed or suspected coronavirus in Scotland under these figures.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (PA)

The figures, updated by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), show that these deaths have been officially recorded as of August 16.

The weekly statistics account for all  deaths registered  in Scotland where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

They include all suspected and probable cases of the virus in hospitals and so differ from daily figures released by the  Scottish Government.

Due to the decreasing numbers of deaths, today's is the last detailed weekly update from National Records of Scotland.

They will now be moving to a monthly update and only providing 'headline' figures weekly.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon warns that positive cases increasing is Scotland's schools is 'inevitable'.

Clusters have been found in the north-east of Glasgow and Lanarkshire since Scots kids returned to classrooms last week.

Positive cases have also been found among pupils in Renfrewshire and Perth and Kinross.
