Three Rams players forced to evacuate homes due to wildfires

Since moving to Los Angeles, the Rams have experienced the damage and horror that can be caused by wildfires in California. For the third year in a row, the Rams have been impacted in some way by fires.

After wildfires spread overnight Thursday into Friday, dozens of homes have been burned and thousands have been forced to evacuate the area.

Sean McVay said on Friday that Todd Gurley, Samson Ebukam and John Johnson were all under that mandatory evacuation order and had to leave their homes. They were in attendance and accounted for at the Rams facility, but it’s unknown when they’ll be clear to return home.

McVay said at his press conference that he could smell the smoke on his drive into the team’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks.

“I know that they’re OK, but those fires, I could smell them when I was driving over here. It’s so unfortunate and it gives you such a perspective. This is now the third year in a row this stuff’s happened – obviously I’m newer to this area – but it’s so unfortunate when you have to watch people go through that and it’s affected three of our players right now. Hopefully it’ll be something that they’re able to return to their homes with no damage done and guys get everything under control.”

McVay continued by reiterating that everyone’s safe, but it’s still a scary situation for everyone involved.

“Everybody’s OK but I can only imagine how I would feel,” he said. “A couple years ago, we had to get evacuated from my house and that’s an unnerving thing. Is it close? Is it not? Those are things that, it’s not fun to go through and you never wish that, especially on our guys.”

Gurley shared this tweet on Friday morning about his current situation.
