Three postcodes which could keep Bristol region in Tier 3

Three areas in the Bristol region have Covid-19 infection rates above 400 - potentially stopping our city from exiting the strictest measures.

Ministers will announce if Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are to remain in Tier 3 tomorrow (December 16)

In the past week, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has praised Bristol twice for our rapidly falling rates.

Bristol City Council has also confirmed our hospital admissions have been decreasing, although pressures remain on the local NHS.

But three areas in Bristol, or near its borders, still have worryingly high infections.

An interactive map released by the Government illustrates how prevalent the virus has been in each area across the region over the most recent seven day period.

It reveals Westbury-on-Trym, Congresbury and Kewstoke and Bradley Stoke Central still have rates over 400 - where the virus is spreading much faster than the national average.

The rate is expressed per 100,000 people.

Here's a breakdown of the highest cases in our area:

  • Westbury-on-Trym: 614.4 (40 cases)
  • Bradley Stoke Central: 487.3 (55 cases)
  • Congresbury & Kewstoke: 444.8 (32 cases)

  • Bradley Stoke North East: 359 (37 cases)
  • Kingswood: 346.8 (27 cases)
  • Southmead: 250.5 (30 cases)
