Three popular Dublin food businesses forced to close in March due to food safety concerns

Three Dublin food businesses were forced to close in March due to food safety concerns.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland issued the closures to two restaurants and one public house.

All three businesses reopened following the inspections.

The three establishments were part of six in total that were forced to close throughout Ireland - the other closures were in Galway (2) and Cork.

The reasons each business was told to close is still unknown with the details not expected to be available for around another week.

'Mouse droppings and dead flies' among reasons for food safety orders in February

Victoria Asia Cuisine 5a The Crescent in Monkstown was served with the notice on 28 March but reopened the following day.

Taka Ra at 37 Abbey Street Upper was forced to close on 21 March and reopened on March 25.

The Old Punch Bowl at 116 Rock Road Booterstown was issued with the order on 11 March and also reopened the next day.

The closure of The Old Punch Bowl was for the kitchen and food storage area on the first floor only. The bar was not affected.

FSA shuts one of Dublin's busiest tourists spots after 'live and dead' cockroaches found on premises

Commenting on the February closures last month, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI emphasised the risk that unhygienic practices within food businesses pose to consumer health.

She said: “The Enforcement Orders served in February were primarily due to premises presenting with poor hygienic conditions throughout and without any evidence of cleaning taking place.

"It is not acceptable that consumers’ or indeed food workers’ health is compromised by inadequate food safety practices in any food business. The legal responsibility for producing safe food lies firmly with food businesses."
