Three players with shortest odds to join Newcastle United in January transfer window

Newcastle United may be looking to dip into the transfer market in January after an unremarkable start to the season.

The Magpies lie firmly in mid table after winning three and losing three of their opening seven games.

Steve Bruce's side have struggled to make the most of any momentum in the Premier League this season but have the prospect of a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford to look forward to next month.

The promising summer additions of Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis and Callum Wilson have improved the side since last season, with the latter proving a threat up front having scored six times in eight league appearances.

It remains to be seen how the Magpies will use the January window, but Sky Bet have identified three players that could be in line to join.

Bournemouth's Josh King, who has been linked with a switch to Newcastle in recent months, is currently 6/1 to sign for the club in January.

The Norwegian attacker was in demand during the summer, with Tottenham and Everton among other clubs tipped to land his signature, but ultimately a move away never materialised.

The 28-year-old has played five times in the Championship this season following Bournemouth's relegation, but is yet to score or provide an assist.

Another player that could potentially be tempted to Tyneside is Manchester United defender Phil Jones, who is 8/1 to join in January.

The centre-back has also been the subject of rumours throughout 2020, and the Chronicle previously reported that Bruce could 'reignite' his interest in signing Jones in January.

The Preston-born defender has made 200 appearances for the Red Devils during his career but has not featured this season.

A less likely mid-season signing could come in the form of Tottenham's Dele Alli.

The midfielder is priced at 28/1 to become a Magpies player in two months' time, indicating that the possibility of a move is far from certain.

The England man has seen his minutes limited under Jose Mourinho with his Spurs career seemingly hanging in the balance.

The club may choose to ship him out either permanently or on loan in January, which could see the player making a switch to another Premier League club.
