Three phonecalls could shape the future of European football and Premier League outcome

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin is set to chair a series of video calls that will decide the outcome of the football season today.

Three calls will take place in order to discuss proposals and ultimately route out a solution for the domestic leagues, Champions League, Europa League as well as Euro 2020.

These crunch calls are in response to the suspension of football across Europe which took place last week due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The European Club Association will host all three calls which will take place on Tuesday and are expected to run into the late afternoon.

The first call, which will include Premier League teams, is set to find a way for the domestic leagues, including the Champions League and Europa League, to continue.

The formatting for the remainder of both European competitions' fixtures will be discussed here.

A report from the Mirror suggests a likely scenario could be for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the respective competitions to be played in one off encounters on neutral grounds.

Another call will also take place and this one is widely expected to see Euro 2020 postponed by one year and the Nations League tournament abandoned. March and June's international fixtures are also likely to be cancelled to help free up the fixture list.

The final call will be where the decisions are made by the UEFA Executive Committee. There are 19 elected members on the committee as well as President Ceferin.

This last video call is expected to see decisions on the Champions League, Europa League and international football made. This will no doubt impact upon what is discussed and decided upon by the Premier League who will chair a similar meeting on Thursday.
