Three Perth DJs beat fundraising target for local mental health charity

A Perth DJ has thanked the region’s music lovers for their support after his concert for a local mental health charity surpassed its donation target.

Mark Stuart was joined by fellow DJs Johnny Fraser and Gordon Lackie for the ‘ThrowBACK Festive Fundraiser’ virtual concert on December 27 in aid of Andys Man Club (AMC) in Perth.

The tunes played by all three on the night were recognisable to the ears of many who attended the once popular Ice Factory night club, where they performed sets throughout the 90s and 00s.

The trio were to host the virtual concert live on December 27 but, due to restrictions, pre-recorded their sets to be broadcast on Mixcloud that day instead.

Organiser Mark set up a GoFundMe page with a target of £500 but thanks to donations before and during the show they managed to raise £610 for the charity.

Mark said: “The donations started coming in during the day on December 27. Before we set off it was at £40 or £50.

“It was a pre-recorded concert that lasted about four-and-a-half hours. I went first, then Johnny and then Gordon with our own sets.

“During the broadcast we sat at our computers and kept the feedback flowing in the chat, asking people to donate.

“Within the first 20 minutes there were 100 viewers and it steadily went up from there to 340 viewers and kept going until we reached 600.”

Mark’s set focused on the dance and house music from 2020, while Johnny’s focus was on music from the late 90s to early 2000s.

Gordon played similar older style tracks but brought them forward in time with a more techno vibe, and mixed in some club classics.

“Starting at 7pm felt a bit early but there was great support there,” Mark added.

“We didn’t know what to expect but at the peak we were trending in the top four on Mixcloud.

“The whole experience was overwhelming for us to be honest.

“After it was finished we messaged Alex [McClintock of AMC] saying we reached £610, so thank you to everyone who donated.”
