Three people taken to hospital following van crash in Wigan

Three people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries following a crash in Wigan.

Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a van on Park Road shortly after 2pm on Monday (September 6).

Crews from Greater Manchester Police, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) all attended the scene.

Photos from the scene show a van rammed into a metal fence under the nearby railway bridge.

NWAS confirmed that three people had been taken to hospital with minor injuries following the incident, which happened near to Mesnes Park.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) added: “At around 2.40pm on Monday 6th September, one fire engine from Wigan fire station attended an incident involving a van on Park Road, Wigan.

“Crews arrived quickly and used a hose reel and specialist equipment to make the scene safe.

“Fire crews were on the scene for approximately 40 minutes.”

As a result of the incident, Park Road was closed in both directions with local bus services being rerouted.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for information.
