Three people taken to hospital following two car collision in Dublin on Friday night

Gardai have confirmed that three people have been taken to hospital following a serious road traffic collision in south Dublin.

A driver and passenger of one vehicle were taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Connolly Hospital also but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

His injuries are said to be "serious".

Gardai are still currently attending the incident which took place near Chapelizod on Friday night.

The road is currently being examined by gardai and is due to reopen at 11am.

Closures are currently in place at Knockmaroon Hill between the Lower Road Junction and Chapelizod Village.

A eye-witness described the collision to Dublin Live as "fairly serious".

In a statement, a spokeswoman for gardai said that the crash took place at "Knockmaroon Hill, Chapelizod at approximately 11.30p.m. last night, Friday 26 April.

"Driver and passenger of one vehicle taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown and the driver of second vehicle was taken to Connolly also but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his injuries are serious.

"Investigations ongoing and road currently closed but should reopen by 11am."
