Three people taken to hospital after two-vehicle crash on A189 near Woodhorn

Three people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A189 at Woodhorn in Northumberland.

The two-vehicle crash happened between the Woodhorn Roundabout and the A1068 just before 1.30pm on Monday.

The road was closed with police blocking off the route to traffic as emergency services remained on the scene. Follow the latest updates in our live blog.

Three people have been taken by ambulance to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.20pm to a two-vehicle road traffic collision at Woodhorn Roundabout in Ashington.

"We dispatched two double-crewed ambulances and a patient transport service vehicle to the scene.

"Three patients were transported to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 1.24pm today, we received a report of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A189 between Woodhorn and Linton, in Northumberland."

Drivers were asked to find an alternative route before the road was reopened just before 5pm.
