A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said a woman, aged in her 20s, and a man, whose age has not been confirmed, were taken to hospital.

The woman had to be cut free from a car by fire crews.

The extent of both of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.

A pedestrian, a teenage girl, was also taken to hospital with an arm injury.

The northbound carriageway of Middleton Road was closed off for almost four hours after the crash.

Pictures showed one car completely overturned onto its roof at the scene, while two other cars appeared to have been badly damaged in the smash.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Shortly after 8.00am on Monday 26 th July 2021, two fire engines from Whitefield and Broughton fire stations along with the technical response units from Leigh fire stations attended a road traffic collision involving three cars on Heaton Park Road West, Manchester.

"Firefighters arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to extract one woman from a vehicle, who was then transferred to the care of colleagues from NWAS and conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

"Fire crews were on the scene for around an hour and twenty five minutes."

The M.E.N has contacted Greater Manchester Police for more information.
