Three people taken to hospital after house explosion in Yorkshire reduces property to rubble

Three people have been taken to hospital after an explosion at a house reduced a property to a smoking pile of rubble.

The incident happened on Saturday morning at around 7.30am in Green Lane in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said three people were treated at the scene and were taken to hospital.

All others have been accounted for, they said.

No other information has been released about the people who were hurt.

The service said one building was affected by the blast and six other buildings nearby were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the blast and fire crews said they were managing any "remaining pockets of fire" at the scene.

A picture shared by the fire service showed smoking rubble where the property once stood.

Fire crews are expected to be on scene for some time.

Crews have also been working with West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service as well as the local authority and utility companies.

Many people living in the area posted on social media reported hearing an extremely loud bang.

One said: "Never heard such BANG it shook the promenade at Ogden."

Fire engines from Fairweather Green, Halifax and Odsal initially attended the incident and were joined by specialist units from Cleckheaton and Dewsbury.

A fundraiser has already been set up for those affected by the explosion, with people offering to donate cloths and food to the affected family via local businesses and charities.
