Three people taken to hospital after crash in Middleton

Three people were taken to hospital after a crash in Middleton last night.

It happened on Lodge Street near the town centre just before midnight.

It is unclear how many vehicles were involved.

But video from the scene showed one car crumpled against some railings on the banks of Whit Brook which runs off the River Irk.

Police and paramedics were among the emergency services who responded.

People were urged to avoid the area as they dealt with the aftermath and carried out enquiries.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) later confirmed that three people had been taken to hospital as a result of the collision.

Their injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening the force said.

No further details have been disclosed at this stage.

The road was closed for almost six hours, near the junction with Morton Street, before eventually re-opening at around 5:45am.
