Three people taken to hospital after car overturns on A1 in Northumberland

Three people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A1.

Emergency services were called after a car overturned near Deanmoor, in Northumberland, at around 9am on Saturday.

The road was partially blocked both north and southbound while police, firefighters and paramedics attended the incident.

Motorists faced delays due to slow moving traffic before the road fully reopened just after 11am.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service has confirmed three people have been taken to hospital.

He said: "We were called at 9.02am to reports a car had overturned on the A1.

"We sent two paramedic crews who treated three patients on scene.

"One person was trapped in the overturned vehicle before being taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."

Writing on social media, a Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We’re currently dealing with a collision on the A1 northbound at Deanmoor, Alnwick.

"Northbound carriageway reduced to one lane.

“Please allow extra time and reduce speeds when passing. Southbound open as normal.”
