Three people rushed to hospital after two car crash on busy road

Three more people ended up in hospital this afternoon as a horrific week on the region's roads continued.

The victims were injured after a Peugeot 208 hit a Vauxhall Meriva on Woolton Road, near the junction with Gateacre Road.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said that all three people were taken to hospital.

A witness at the scene said the crash appeared to happen as one vehicle was waiting to turn right into Rockbourne Avenue.

Another woman who lives nearby said: "I first became aware when I saw a lot of emergency vehicles on the road. There were blue lights everywhere.

"It was quite a shock seeing them all there. There must have been around five to six ambulances, and a fire service search and rescue vehicle as well as fire engines.

"The road was blocked for a good couple of hours. I just hope everyone's going to be okay."

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Woolton following a road traffic collsion this afternoon, Tuesday 27 April.

"Shortly after 12.30pm, officers were called to the junction of Woolton Road and Gateacre Road to reports of a collision between a Peugeot 208 and a Vauxhall Meriva.

"Three people who were in the vehicles are being treated for injuries at the scene."

The seriousness of the injuries has not yet been confirmed.

The latest accident comes the day after a 15-year-old boy was knocked off his bicycle and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Manor Drive, Upton.

Two men, aged 22 and 48, have been arrested in connection with that incident.

Tragedy also struck in the early hours of Monday, when three people died in a devastating crash on East Prescot Road, Knotty Ash, after a BMW smashed into a roundabout.

A man and woman in their 20s and a man in his 30s were later pronounced dead.

Only 24 hours earlier there was another serious crash on the same junction which left a 19-year-old man, who had been riding an e-scooter, in a critical condition.

The teenager was injured after a collision with a Hackney taxi cab.
