Three people rushed to hospital after major rescue mission at Scots beach

Three people have been rushed to hospital after being recovered from the water near a Scots beach.

A major emergency service response was sparked this afternoon after three people got in trouble near Tentsmuir Sands in Fife.

A search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick was called to the scene, along with coastguard rescue teams from St Andrews, Dundee and Leven.

The Broughty Ferry lifeboat was also launched to help with the rescue, which took place at about 1pm.

A member of the public had called 999 after becoming concerned about three people in the water.

The condition of those rescued is not known at this time.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: "At approx. 1pm today (12 August), HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public concerned about three people in the water at Tentsmuir Sands, Fife.

"St Andrews, Dundee and Leven coastguard rescue teams were sent alongside the Broughty Ferry RNLI lifeboats and the search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick.

"Three people were recovered from the water and taken to hospital for assessment."

Police confirmed that they had been made aware of the incident at about 1.40pm but it was dealt with by ambulance and other agencies.
