Three people rescued after van flipped onto side following M62 smash

Three people were rescued after a van flipped onto its side on the M62.

The collision, involving a large van and a car, happened between junction 16 and 17 for Whitefield, Bury.

Four fire engines and the technical response unit were called to the scene at 12.25am on Friday.

Crews rescued a man from the van and two women from the car.

They were all checked over by ambulance service staff, but did not require hospital treatment.

Firefighters were at the scene for 55 minutes.

The motorway was closed for a short time and has since re-opened.

A statement from a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman read: "We were called to a van on its side.

"It was a road traffic collision involving a large van and one car. The motorway was closed.

"One male was rescued from the van and two females from the car.

"They were all assessed by NWAS but nobody was taken to hospital."
