A child was among three people taken to hospital after a collision on a busy road in north Manchester.

Three people had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters after a three-vehicle collision on Crescent Road, in Crumpsall, earlier this evening (June 5).

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash, close to Abraham Moss Leisure Centre, just after 6pm.

On arrival they found that a vehicle carrying seven people had been in a collision with another two cars.

Four people had managed to make their way out of the wreckage before firefighters arrived. However another three people, including a child, had to be rescued by emergency workers.

All three were taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service.

One person suffered serious injuries and a child suffered minor injuries, Greater Manchester Police said.

Part of the road is currently closed while emergency crews work at the scene.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.06pm to Crescent Road in Manchester.

"Two pumps and a technical response unit attended and found a collision involving three cars - one had seven occupants.

"Four people self rescued and firefighters extracted three casualties from a vehicle. They are all now in the care of NWAS.”

Pictures taken at the scene show a damaged Volkswagen Golf in the middle of the road behind a police cordon. An empty bus can also be seen close to the crash site.

A red air ambulance was also pictured on a nearby field behind Abraham Moss Community School.
