Three people from different households in Manchester fined after driving to Yorkshire in heavy snow for takeaway

Three people from Greater Manchester have been fined for breaking lockdown after they were caught driving to Yorkshire in heavy snow for a takeaway.

West Yorkshire Police stopped the car on the M62 after it reached speeds of 90mph, despite adverse weather conditions.

The occupants of the vehicle were found to be travelling from Manchester to the West Yorkshire area for a takeaway, police said.

All three passengers were from different households.

They were all issued with a Covid fine, and the driver was issued with a speeding ticket.

As the car had not been taxed since September 2020, West Yorkshire Police said they also seized the vehicle.

In a post on Twitter, the force wrote: "M62 - followed at over 90mph despite the weather.

"Three occupants, from three different households in GMP on their way to get a takeaway.

"Three Covid fines issued, one speeding ticket issued and as the car hadn't been taxed since September last year, it was seized."

Under the current national lockdown, it is forbidden by law to leave your home except for essential reasons such as work, education, to buy food or exercise.

Restaurants are allowed to operate a takeaway service, but members of the public are advised travelling outside their area for the purposes of buying food.
