Three people escape with minor injuries after crash on busy road

Three people who were taken to hospital after a car crash in south Liverpool all escaped with minor injuries.

The emergency services were called out to Woolton Road at around 12.30pm on Tuesday afternoon following reports of an accident involving a Peugeot 208 and a Vauxhall Meriva.

Today Merseyside Police confirmed three people who were taken to hospital after the crash suffered only minor injuries.

The spokesman added that the section of road reopened at around 3.45pm.

A witness at the scene said the crash appeared to happen as one vehicle was waiting to turn right into Rockbourne Avenue.

Another woman who lives nearby said: "I first became aware when I saw a lot of emergency vehicles on the road. There were blue lights everywhere.

"It was quite a shock seeing them all there. There must have been around five to six ambulances, and a fire service search and rescue vehicle as well as fire engines.

"The road was blocked for a good couple of hours. I just hope everyone's going to be okay."

Yesterday police released a statement to the ECHO which read: "We can confirm that emergency services are in Woolton following a road traffic collision this afternoon, Tuesday 27 April.

"Shortly after 12.30pm, officers were called to the junction of Woolton Road and Gateacre Road to reports of a collision between a Peugeot 208 and a Vauxhall Meriva.

"Three people who were in the vehicles are being treated for injuries at the scene."

The accident on Woolton Road happened during a spate of more serious incidents on Merseyside's roads.

On Monday a boy, 15, was knocked off his bicycle and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Manor Drive, Upton. Two men, aged 22 and 48, have been arrested in connection with that incident.

Three people died after a crash during the early hours of Monday morning on East Prescot Road, when a BMW collided with a roundabout.

On Saturday there was another serious crash on the same junction which left a 19-year-old man, who had been riding an e-scooter, in a critical condition. The teenager was injured after a collision with a Hackney taxi cab.
