Three people have been critically injured in a five-vehicle motorway pile-up in Kent.
The two men and one woman were taken to a London hospital following the crash on the M20, between junctions eight and nine, at 4.41am.
The woman was airlifted to King’s College hospital after the collision, which involved an Audi TT, two lorries, a Vauxhall Vivaro and a Fiat Ducato. The men were taken to the same hospital by road, according to Kent Online.
Two other men, one in his 60s and the other in his 40s, were taken to William Harvey hospital with serious injuries.
The stretch of the motorway between junctions eight and nine was closed for up to 10 hours. Several people were reportedly trapped in one of the vehicles and around 20 firefighters were involved in a rescue operation.
It is the second serious crash to occur on the road within 24 hours. Just before 7am on Wednesday, a male pedestrian, believed to have been a migrant who had fled to the UK, died after being struck on the carriageway.
Sergeant Glyn Walker, of Kent police’s serious investigation unit, said: “We would appeal to anyone who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch. In particular we know many people now have cameras in their cars so if you happened to drive past and film the collision please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Kent police’s serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
