Three people collapse in Newport street and number of other people ill in 'unknown' substance link

Three people who became unwell after possibly using "unknown substances" were taken to hospital after collapsing on a busy Newport road.

The emergency services were called to Commercial Road in Pill , Newport , at 8.30pm on Thursday night to reports that three people had collapsed.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said they were contacted by the Welsh Ambulance Service following "a number of instances in which people were taken unwell after the suspected use of unknown substances".

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it was called at 8.30pm and took three people to the Royal Gwent Hospital by ambulance.

The police said those involved were treated by paramedics and have since recovered.

The force said enquiries are ongoing into the cause and it is investigation the circumstances of the cases.

A spokesman for the force said: "If anyone has any information that could help with our enquiries, please call 101 quoting log 492 (16/5/19).
