Three people charged as police break up illegal Glasgow Covid-19 gathering

Three people have been charged after police were forced to break up an illegal Glasgow gathering.

Officers swooped on a property in York Street at around 3.10am on Sunday after reports groups were breaking strict Covid-19 restrictions.

As a result multiple people were charged while others faced fines from cops.

A police spokesperson told the Record: "We were called to a report of an illegal gathering at a property in York Street, Glasgow, around 3.10 am on Sunday, 13 December, 2020.

“Officers gave advice, the gathering was dispersed and a number of Fixed Penalty Notices issued.

"Three people were charged in connection with the incident and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

"We continue to ask people to take personal responsibility to do the right thing and remember the purpose of these measures is to aid the collective effort to protect the NHS and save lives by preventing the virus from spreading.

"Our officers will continue to engage with the public, explain the legislation and guidance, and encourage compliance.

"We will use enforcement as a last resort where there is a clear breach of the legislation."
