Three out of four Irish people will eat turkey this Christmas Day

Three out of four Irish people will eat turkey this Christmas Day, a survey has revealed.

Over half will choose a whole turkey, while 24% will choose a turkey crown.

Ham is also a popular Christmas food with nearly 80% of the people saying it’ll be on their dinner tables on the big day.

A total of 52% of people will have their turkey in the oven before 11 am with dinner planned between 2 pm and 5 pm, a survey from Aldi revealed.

Carrots seem to be a Christmas favourite with 90% of people choosing to eat them on the day, along with parsnips (60%), red cabbage (22%) and although everyone claims to dislike them, most Christmas dinners include Brussels sprouts (77%).

Nearly 90% opt for gravy as the sauce of choice while 65% have cranberry sauce.

And most people prefer to make turkey sandwiches with the leftover meat with stuffing, ham and cranberry sauce.

Some of the weirder choices of Christmas sandwich ingredients include: “a sprinkling of peanuts”, “pickles”, and “mustard & cabbage”.
