Three River Class ferries will be named after Novocastrian identities, Transport for NSW has announced.
Paralympian Kurt Fearnley, retired footballer Cheryl Salisbury and the late painter Margaret Olley were selected to feature on the vessels.
Four of the 10 ferries ordered by Sydney Ferries operator Transdev have been docked at Carrington since mid-year.
Olley's name will feature on one of those, while vessels yet to be delivered to Australia will be named after Salisbury and Fearnley.
"All of the River Class vessels have been named after notable individuals who have helped shape NSW culture through art, literature and sport, with three authors, three artists and four athletes selected," Transport for NSW chief operations officer Howard Collins said.
The four ferries will be shifted to Sydney this week.
The remaining ferries have been named after artists Esme Timbery and Olive Cotton, authors Ruby Langford Ginibi, Ruth Park and Ethel Turner, netballer Liz Ellis and basketballer Lauren Jackson.
