Three of London's best life drawing classes

Neon Naked

Across London, neonnaked.com

Think a life drawing class might be a tad awkward? Neon Naked has a solution: UV body paint, a party atmosphere and plenty to drink. Classes are at pubs across London, with rowdier Saturday night sessions and the Tuesday nights a little quieter. At both, models quite literally glow up.

East London Strippers Collective

The Crown & Shuttle, E1, eastlondonstripperscollective.com

Not for those who blush easily. The ELSC is, by its own description, a “bunch of feisty, feminist, fiercely independent women, who also happen to be strippers”. They’re the models, then, with the classes (usually on a Monday) taking place in a boozer, not a strip club. The performers do their thing, and the crowd paints them. It’s £16.50, with materials an additional £2.50.

Dulwich Art Group

Champion Hill, SE5, dulwichartgroup.co.uk

Your more traditional of the offerings. The Dulwich Art Group and School offers both tutored Monday night sessions for complete beginners — these done as a complete course — or freer, unstructured and untutored sessions for those wanting to simply show up and sketch (or paint). Booking is advised but turning up to paint on spec is welcomed too.
