KOLHAPUR: At least three persons were killed while one sustained serious injuries in a road accident which took place at Kini village in Kolhapur district on Pune-Bengaluru National Highway, in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Vadgaon police, the mishap happened after an SUV rammed into a container parked inappropriately on the road side and just when the driver was reversing the vehicle, a speeding truck hit it from behind in which the SUV got squeezed in between the truck and the container.
Police said, Trilesh Kumar C from Bengaluru who bought a new SUV one and a half month ago was travelling to Shirdi along with his family.
Officials informed, Trilesh(42) , Sanjana Maheshwari (27) and Jithya Trilesh (11), all residents of North Meenakshi Nagar in Bengaluru, died on the spot while Arini N was hospitalized with serious injuries.
After the accident, the truck driver and the container driver fled from the spot.
Police team from Vadgaon police station under API Bhimgonda Patil rushed to the spot after the accident and with the help of locals and staff from Kini toll plaza, the injured woman was shifted to CPR Hospital in Kolhapur.
The vehicles were removed with the help of a crane and traffic flow was streamlined.
