16 symptoms of coronavirus - as three more added to official diagnosis list

Three new coronavirus symptoms have been added to the official list.

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has added a runny nose or congestion, nausea and diarrhoea to the recognised symptoms of Covid-19.

These new signs come on top of coughing, fever, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, loss of taste or smell and a sore throat, LancsLive reports.

The CDC says symptoms may appear between two to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

Dr Miriam Stoppard previously said: "Quite often diarrhoea can be a symptom, and in up to half of patients, other gastrointestinal problems are reported.

"Whether coronavirus leads to such symptoms directly – by infecting the gastrointestinal tract or indirectly as part of general inflammation – isn’t known.

"Recent cases in China and the US draw attention to other symptoms among patients with Covid-19, including stroke, dizziness, headache and an altered mental state, which suggest a viral invasion of the brain."

It comes as the UK's death toll hit 43,414, while America's climbed above 127,000.

The CDC says its current list of symptoms does not include every possible indication, and will continue to be updated.

The CDC reported 2,414,870 cases of coronavirus in the US, an increase of 40,588 cases from its previous count, and said the number of deaths had risen by 2,516 to 124,325.

The news comes after the global death toll from the disease surpassed 470,000.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that almost 10 million people around the world have now tested positive for Covid-19.

The World Health Organization lists the symptoms of Covid-19 as

  • fever.
  • dry cough.
  • tiredness.

Less common symptoms:

  • aches and pains.
  • sore throat.
  • diarrhoea.
  • conjunctivitis.
  • headache.
  • loss of taste or smell.
  • a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes.

Serious symptoms:

  • difficulty breathing or shortness of breath.
  • chest pain or pressure.
  • loss of speech or movement.
