Three new schools are going to be built in Winchburgh after plans were given the green light.
Two secondary schools and a primary school will be constructed in the West Lothian village, located just a few miles from Edinburgh, to cope with the area's growing population.
A replacement Holy Family Primary School with capacity for 231 pupils and a non-denominational secondary school with capacity for 666 youngsters will be open by August 2022. A denominational secondary school, with space for 660 pupils, will open a year later in August 2023.
Shared PE facilities, a community block with sports pitches, car parking, drop-off areas and landscaping should also be in place by August 2022.
West Lothian Council say Winchburgh will see a "significant" number of new homes being built over the next ten years.
They added: "Planning approval has been granted for the construction of three new schools in Winchburgh, West Lothian. The new schools – which comprise of a new primary school and two new secondary schools – will provide new education facilities for the town's growing population and West Lothian as a whole.
"Winchburgh is one of West Lothian's three Core Development areas which will see a significant number of new homes being built over the next ten years."
