Three more people have died from coronavirus in Bristol region

Another three people have died after catching Covid-19 in the Bristol region, according to official figures.

Statistics, published by Public Health England today (September 9), show that three more coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the region.

Of those, two were recorded in Bristol, while another was recorded in North Somerset.

It means there have now been 513 Covid deaths in Bristol and 325 in North Somerset. In total 1,438 people have died from Covid-19 in the Bristol region.

Today's figures also found that there were 312 new cases of coronavirus recorded in the region - less than half the number recorded yesterday.

Bristol once again recorded the highest number of new cases, at 137, followed by South Gloucestershire with 74.

North Somerset discovered another 61 cases, while Bath and North East Somerset found 40 positive cases.

The Government said a further 167 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Thursday, bringing the UK total to 133,841.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 158,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Thursday, there had been a further 38,013 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to September 8 shows that of the 92,053,472 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,344,566 were first doses, a rise of 25,131 on the previous day.

Some 43,708,906 were second doses, an increase of 87,960.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 57,048 (+137)

  • North Somerset - 18,418 (+61)

  • South Gloucestershire - 28,782 (+74)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 16,694 (+40)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 513 (+2)

  • North Somerset - 325 (+1)

  • South Gloucestershire - 366 (-)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 234 (-)
