Three more people die after testing positive for Covid as hundreds of infections confirmed

Three more people have died after testing positive for coronavirus across the Bristol area, as hundreds of more infections have been confirmed.

The Department of Health's latest data shows one person died in North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset over the past 24 hours.

Data also shows a further 210 infections have been reported across all four local authorities on Monday - a significant rise from yesterday's 97.

Bristol recorded the biggest jump of 96. Our city's Covid rate per 100,000 cases now stands at 122.6 - slightly below the national average of 125.1.

South Gloucestershire confirmed the second-highest rise of 51. This district's rate is 114.7.

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +24 (7,924)

  • Bristol: +96 (29,190)

  • North Somerset: +39 (9,566)

  • South Gloucestershire: +51 (14,394)

Lockdown

Lockdown will lift in four stages - with five weeks between each one, starting on March 8 - the Prime Minister has confirmed today.

The ‘stay at home’ order will remain in place until March 29 - when it will be replaced by advice to ‘stay local’.

Sporting events and live music will return no earlier than May 17, under the plans.

Non-essential shops, hairdressers and gyms could reopen in April if the government's tests are met in the first phase.

And pubs and restaurants could serve drinks outdoors from April - and reopen indoors from May.
