Three more local coronavirus deaths as the UK passes toll of 60,000

Three more coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in South Gloucestershire (December 3).

According to the latest Government data, a total of 193 Covid fatalities have now been recorded in this district where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate.

This total was last updated on November 20.

Bristol reported no more deaths today, meaning  the city's total remained at 293 for fatalities where Covid was on the death certificate.

Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset each confirmed no further deaths today.

Cases

There have been another 187 confirmed coronavirus cases across Bristol and its neighbouring areas on Thursday.

Our city recorded the biggest jump of 72, while South Gloucestershire reported a further 50.

Local breakdown of daily figures:

The daily rise is recorded below, with the accumulative figure since the pandemic began in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +33 (3,692)
  • Bristol: +72 (15,538)
  • North Somerset: +32 (4,198)
  • South Gloucestershire: +50 (6,320)

Rates

Bristol's Covid rate per 100,000 people has been falling this week and now stands at 177.6.

This is only slightly above England's 155.4 but still significantly higher than the South West's 92.6.

Covid-19 case rates in England are continuing to fall in all age groups, according to the latest weekly surveillance report from Public Health England.

The highest rate is among 40 to 49 year-olds, which stood at 190.3 cases per 100,000 people in the week to November 29, but this is down from 249.8 in the previous week.

For 70 to 79 year-olds the rate fell from 112.8 to 78.6, while for people aged 80 and over the rate dropped from 220.7 to 182.0.

Case rates are also falling in every region of England, Public Health England said.

The biggest drop was in north-east England, where the rate stood at 181.7 per 100,000 people in the week to November 29, down from 286.6 in the previous week.

In Yorkshire and the Humber, the rate dropped from 284.2 to 181.2.

West Midlands recorded the highest rate of any region in England: 192.4, down from 282.3.

South-west England had the lowest rate: 88.8, down from 130.8.
